Category: Blended Shelf

Today the Hybrid Bookshelfas a result of the Blended Shelf Projectwas presented at the 104. Bibliothekartag in Nürnberg. It is great to finally see the works and results of my master thesis arriving as an product. It will soon be available as hosted solution and open source software. I just noticed that Blended Shelf plays a role in the new image movie of the University of Konstanz. It is an honor that my alma mater uses my work to advertise for itself. I assume that an English version will follow soon.

I added some screenshots of the current html5 version of the Blended Shelf. This is work in progress. A lot of features are still missing and the final product may look differently. The technological base is VuFind and a lot of html5, css3 and js.

As a preparation for my talk at the Bibliothekartag I made a short video of the HTML5 version of the Blended Shelf.

Currently I´m working at the ZHAW on this HTML5 version of the Blended Shelf. It is build upon great open source software such as Apache SOLR, ZEND Framework and VuFind and is implemented on the client side with pure CSS3, JavaScript and HTML.

I am happy to announce that I will talk about the Blended Shelf at the Bibliothekartag 2014 in Bremen. The talk will be embedded in the awards ceremony of the B.I.T.online – Innovationspreis. The session is planned for the 05. June 2014 from 10:30 to 12:30 at the Stand der Verbände.

The talk will be a follow-up to my talk last year in Leipzig. While in Leipzig I had to conclude my talk with assumptions about the usability and usefulness, I now will be able to present the results of my studies and give an insight in the current efforts to develop it further.

I am looking forward to interesting talks and an inspiring conference!
